San Diego radio pro Ken Copper checks in on a recent trip to the midwest: “Proof that I did indeed hike a mile into a cornfield outside of Clear Lake, Iowa to visit the crash site where “the music died”. It’s hard to believe that it has almost been fifty years since we lost Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson. The Surf Ballroom, where they last performed, is still standing by the lake. The place looks like something out of “The Last Picture Show”.
When KOGO’s Roger Hedgecock steps out of the broadcast booth, he taps a vast talent pool across the country and from nearby Dehesa Valley. Jimmy Valentine, the Harley riding executive producer for Team Hedgecock opens the mic and tells San Diego advice better than Dr. Laura. Last Friday, the Mayor of Dehesa Valley sought out and found advice and help in building a special needs vehicle for a listener.

Weekend host at KCBQ, Rick Amato is looking for two interns to help with his radio show. Rick is looking for:

• Help with research on topics for the radio show, Washington Times articles and Lou Dobbs appearances
• Assist with production of the radio show (confirming guests, proper ads are run, etc).

Art Bell, the weekend host of Coast To Coast AM, heard on KOGO, KFI and on XM 165, announced news on Saturday night. Art said that his wife Airyn is expecting their first child. Art moved to the Phillipines earlier this year.

With the Padres season ending last night in St. Louis, what a ride. The broadcast team of Ted Leitner, Jerry Coleman and Tim Flannery — with all the crew at XX Sports — did a wonderful job.
