Buying or selling, Coe and Della

Welcome to SDRadio for monday, december 18, 2006.

It’s almost here: the end of the year for 2006. As I sharpen my pencil, it’s time for the annual “Best Of” for the year.

Best Shows You Might Not Listening Too (but should)

  • Jagger and Kristi, Magic 92.5
  • Jagger and Kristi started out as Stars and then, “Oh My!” headed to 94.1. After a change of stations, they have settled in to the groove of 92.5, where every show is magic. Weekdays from 5 to 10 a.m.

  • Xavier The X-Man, afternoons Magic 92.5
  • Anyone named Xavier is uber cool. Anyone named X-Man is a music super hero. Good time had by all.

  • Cantore in the Morning, 91X
  • With the Goddess Jennifer White, Cantore, Ruggy, and Rob, remain the best alternative morning show — on an alternative station.

  • Gene Knight and Sam Bass, KyXy 96.5
  • Sam Bass takes over at 9 a.m. and sets up shop for the perfect work companion. Gene Knight continues at 2 and guides you from work to home.

  • Billy Blast, afternoons, Z90
  • Billy is just on a mission of music, vibes and working you up for the ride home.

  • GenYU on Free FM 103.7.
  • It’s the only reason to listen to the station. Sunday evenngs on 103.7.
Honorable Mention: KPBS‘ HD2 station of Groove Salad, and KGB’s HD2 broadcast of Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw. (See noted HDRadio reception.)

    Other notes about 2006

Long time readers know my frustration with HDRadio in San Diego county. In North County, home reception is good — listening to multi-stream stations in the car on FM is a train wreck. The new medium remains a Stay Tuned item.
The Mikey Show had a great bounce due to the fact the show is hittin’ all the marks. Rock 105.3 being the home of the Chargers gives a good tie in — but it’s really the show that sales itself. No one would have thought that Mikey and crew would be where they are today.

KPBS-FM continues its fine tradition of news for San Diego. No one else comes close in local coverage — and no one else has Tom Fudge. Expect excellence.

Jeff and Jer at Star 94.1 FM continue to be the spot in the morning. Last Friday’s sock-hop/record spinnin’/party at Tower Records proves that this is one of the few shows to announce a location — and thousands will visit. Little Tommy Sablan, Dr. Laura Cain on current events, and Randy T. Hoag, the entire showgram has a wide swath of listeners.

    What Are They Thinking?

103.7 Free FM. Mostly LA-based talk shows, no promotion, and that LA-based talk show thing doesn’t sell well with ears in San Diego. CBS Radio effectively killed a format to loose listeners. Outside of Sunday’s GenYU, it’s “Flee FM”. Sorry Tom, you are sounding tired and have the same tired message as yesterday. Yawn. You may talk about it on the radio today (this paragraph) and I’m sure the four or five listeners here will find it amusing.

Jeff Dotseth and Dave Palet are among the missing from the airwaves. The sports experts have a show that speaks to the fans from novice to expert and never insult. Plus, as an added bonus: no dictionary required for listening.

Thank you for making SDRadio part of your internet travels today! See you on the radio (and in HD where available) today … and here later in the broadcast week.
