Welcome to SDRadio for thursday, january 4, 2007

The world-famous [1] GelderHead Thought Of The Day: If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call to make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting? ~Stephen Levine

Jimmy Valentine, the Mayor of Dehesa Valley, and producer of the Roger Hedgecock show on KOGO writes about evanglist Pat Robinson and his prediction of doom and gloom in the Year of Fear: “I mean like Pat Robertson!! Isn’t it way time that dude was put to pasture? He’s obviously no longer of sound mind. Give him a sign that reads, “the end of the world is near,” and put him on a street corner in Times Square.” Thanks Jimmy.

Want to sample all things HDRadio? Head over to [2] NPR Labs where you can experience over the ‘net what HDRadio is all about — and explained in plain simple English. NPR Labs was established in 2005 as America’s only not-for-profit broadcast technology research and development center. The facility is located in Washington DC at National Public Radio headquarters. The lab works daily on technical research projects supporting the interests of public radio stations across the country.
Also noted: is it me — or do you find it out of place that stations are promoting HDRadio — when they are not broadcasting the new standard. KyXy, Free FM 103.7 are essentially advertising for the competition.

Have you caught this week’s launch of Dave and Jeff at 103.7 Free FM? They hit the mics at 10 a.m. and make San Diego their radio home until 2 p.m. Yesterday, Jeff invited listeners to join him for a bike ride — he told SDRadio that it was his way of talking to the listeners one-on-one and a chance to know his audience. Already on this week: Tony Gywnn. Bruce Bochy is slated to join the on-air fun soon.

How Radio Turns: Free FM’s Danny Bonaduce’s former partner, Jamie, at KYSR-FM in LA, will not return to the LA airwaves. LARadio reported yesterday that Jamie, Jack & Stench will not be part of the “new music direction” at the station. Jamie and KFI’s Bill Handel were involved in an on-air shouting and cursing match in December. (This dismissal is not the result of that incident.)

Thank you for making SDRadio part of your internet travels today! See you on the radio and here early next week. Updates as they happen, and ((in stereo where available)).
