Welcome to SDRadio

The GelderHead Thought For The Day: Above all, life should be fun. ~Unknown

KIISn JesseChannel 933’s “Boy Toy JesseLozano will take over afternoons at LA’s KIIS-FM 102.7. Jesse has been heard on weekends at KIIS-FM in LA for the last three years, in addition to his duties at Channel 933.
Jesse told LARadio.com: “There are now TWO things in my life that have shown me what awesome things can happen when you make sacrifices for something you love. The first is my beautiful four-year-old daughter, who gives me wonderful things every single day. This gig at KIIS is the second. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity. Jocks all over the country dream of, and prepare for this chance, and I am so excited to be here.”
Jesse starts in afternoon drive at KIIS on Monday, January 22.
Congratulations Jesse! See you on the radio in la LA!

Tuesday’s FCC log had a little hidden gem that will bring a station from the desert town of Brawley to nearby Campo. KSIQ-FM, at 96.1, has been approved to begin construction on the station. It is slated to be at 25,000 watts ERP. The map (see yesterday’s post and map) will give a city-grade signal to east county and southern San Diego county. Stay tuned, no time frame given to have this “new” signal in the San Diego market.

KrisUS 95.7’s Kris Rochester is very honest — heck, even Honest Abe finds him when he ventures from home. Recording artist Keith Gale and Kris were hanging out Nashville … Honest!!

This week’s Big Apple order scare had nothing to do with KOGO’s Mark Larson. Just because Mr. Larson was on his way to beautiful downtown Newark and the airport — and was seen leaving New York City prior to the mystery smell — he assured this writer he had nothing to do with it. Mark has a nose for news, however in this case, he didn’t have his nose in this breath taking item. Hear Mark at KOGO from noon to 3 p.m.

The fall book hit the streets on Wednesday. Listening habits for 12-plus include:

  • KiFM 98.1
  • KSON-FM 97.3/92.1
  • KyXy-FM
  • KOGO-AM
  • KGB
  • Rock 105.3
  • KFMB-AM
  • Star 94.1
  • Channel 933
  • US 95.7
  • Magic 92.5
  • Z90
  • 103.7 Free FM’s Danny Bonaduce heads to Temecula Friday night. He’ll bring his comedy routine to a local casino in the Riverside County area.

The launch of The Dennis Miller Show was announced this week. In his first ever radio show, five-time Emmy award winner and four-time Writers’ Guild award winner, Dennis Miller will offer his unique take on the day’s topics with comedy and satire. The daily three-hour talk show will also feature Miller taking listener calls, and interviewing high-profile special guests. The show will debut in March on major market radio stations across the country. Westwood One will hold all broadcast and digital rights to the show.
“This seems like a great fit for me since I grew up in Pittsburgh where broadcast radio was born,” said Miller. “I always knew I would try radio and right now seems like the perfect time. In a world where the stakes are high, the medium is a nice blend of the comfortable and the provocative. I look forward to working with Westwood One and soon being able to finally say aloud the words, ‘I’m up against a hard break’.”

Ready for some football? Saturday’s game will have XX Sports Radio with the game ball. On Sunday, Rock 105.3 will have the Chargers game with Hank Bauer and Josh Lewin and other action on XX Sports Radio. Of course, the expert view is with Dave and Jeff and Free FM 103.7 all week starting at 10 a.m.

SDRadio contributor Bryan Wellander writes: “There is an update to the sale of XHOCL 99.3. MVS International Corperation has submitted an application for a proposal to take over the programming of the station. The application can be found here. It looks like Clear Channel is a step closer to getting rid of that station.
There is also speculation from other industry experts that Clear Channel may have to divest stations in the San Diego, Inland Empire, and Los Angeles market. Market rules give each owner eight stations — five FM and three AM stations. It gets confusing when Riverside County, the High Desert, and other outlying areas can count against overall ownership. Expect lawyers to be chewin’ pencils and lobbyists to hit the agency for clarification. Meanwhile, Clear Channel is on track to move from a public traded company to private. Stay Tuned!

Also noted: Clear Channel Communications has sold the Santa Barbara cluster of seven stations. Former CCU executive Roy Laughlin is one of the new owners. Rincon Broadcasting, is expected to have a local marketing agreement in place by January 16.
