Scott Riggs out at Rock 105.3

Scott Riggs sends: ” I received some not-so-great news earlier this week. After four amazing years at ROCK 105.3 FM San Diego, my DJ tenure and radio shows, The Inside Track and Guerilla Radio, will no longer be part of the ROCK 105.3 programming line-up. It wasn’t a decision against me or the shows but more to modify the Sunday night programming at ROCK so that it is more in line with the day-to-day programming of the station.

I am eternally grateful to ROCK 105.3 Program Director Shauna Moran-Brown for giving me the opportunity and freedom to program an Indie/Alt. show that was far outside the normal ROCK programming and letting me carry on for four years. This entire experience has really brought joy into my life and helped me love music and radio more than I ever knew I could…for that, I am grateful.

I also want to thank you for your support, kindness and patience with me throughout the years. I’ve really enjoyed being part of the San Diego Radio community and Indie music family for the past 15 years and hope that I can return soon and once again give a radio voice to such great music.

So, what’s next for me? One door closes and another opens…that’s what they say, right? My first goal is to get the show back on the air in San Diego. I’ll be shopping The Inside Track to other radio stations here in town and I believe there is at least one or maybe two stations that might be interested. I will, of course, let you know if any progress is made on that front. I’m also cooking up some other exciting things that I will let you know about as they get closer to becoming a reality.

Other than that, I’m going to keep going to shows, listening to great music and getting the word out in any way I can. Within the next month, I’ll be launching a new web site at http://www.riggsradio.com. There will be all kinds of stuff on there, but, my blog will be my new outlet for music release. Once it’s launched, I’ll let you know. In the meantime, you can go to http://www.myspace.com/scottriggs for the latest news.

Mark Larson writes: “Word is that the San Diego-based USS Ronald Reagan will re-deploy soon… much earlier than expected.” The warship returned from six months in the Gulf last July. KOGO’s mid-day expert writes that “If the ship gets new orders to head out in support of the war on terrorism, I plan on linking up for another show “on location”.
Fellow talkshow host Michael Reagan and Mark have been involved with the ship since its commissioning in Norfolk.
Mark will be the featured speaker at Camp Pendleton’s prayer breakfast on February 8.
The Ronald Reagan Plankowner also adds: “Did you see that Jarrod Fowler, a sailor on the Reagan, made it to the next round of American Idol? I had him on my show from the ship in the Persian Gulf when he was competing in their version of the show — Reagan Idol”… Fun to see his progress!”

Last week a Sac-town radio station KDND was at the end — the end of a morning radio bit gone bad. The “Wee for a WII” had one participant drinking excess water then dying. The station fired ten people from the staff of “The End 107.9″ yesterday. Over at Star 94.1, a very similar promotion for the hot video game was played on the same day. This time with better results. Meanwhile in the state’s capital, criminal charges are being considered after hearing an audio outtake. See the SacBee website for the five minute audio clip.

hEAR Wax: That is world-famous Jim McInnes on 760 KFMB. He’s taken a position at Metro Traffic and delivers the news weeknights at the talk station …… Monday’s holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday had Cindy Pace of 101.5 KGB playing out takes of King’s speeches and then ending with U2’s “Pride: In The Name Of Love”. Nice! …… Saturday night, KOGO has Coast to Coast starting at 6 p.m. On that day, the first four hours belong to Ian Punnett, with Art Bell taking over at 10 p.m. Last weekend, Art, still feeling the effects of a trans-Pacific move, had to sit out — and Ian kept at the mic for a solid eight hours…… Dave Palet of 103.7 Free FM tells me that he was suprised that Marty Schottenheimer returns next season with the Chargers. “Everyone who knew … said Marty was out!” Dave, along with Jeff Dotseth kicked the reasons around all this week. “The Chargers kept him,” Dave said…… Joe Tutino takes over as Director of Operations and Programming for XX Sports and Cash 1700. The Bulldog replaces Bill Pugh. He left to become program director of Sporting News Radio….. Don Imus, the highest viewed show on MSNBC — you know, a radio show on cable television … has inked a deal with WFAN for five more years. He is expected to remain on MSNBC as well…… Wild man Tom Leykis hits the San Diego streets a week from this Flash Friday. The afternoon host on 103.7 Free FM will be in the downtown area. The Federal Communications Commission has digitally said NO to a Wall Street push to merge XMRadio and Sirrius. The companies, both loosing money, have been rumored to combine services. However the FCC said that a proposed combined company would be nixed by the agency. Both companies had a positive cash flow the last quarter of 2006, but have lost money since selling service. Stay Tuned to the heavens ….
