Welcome to SDRadio for Tuesday, April 10, 2007. The world-famous GelderHead Thought Of The Day: The key to achievement lies in being a How thinker, not an If thinker. ~Unknown

jeffmrvoice.jpgJeff Gelder, though provoker, KyXy host, and voice over talent writes: “Here is a pic of me and “Mr Voice,” Don LaFontaine who does the movie trailers that begin with “In a world….” I met him last week at the VOICE 2007 conference in Las Vegas which was amazing. He also is the guy in the Geico commercials and was the announcer for the Academy Awards show.” Thanks Jeff!

KOGOFor years, Roger Hedgecock has held elected officials feet to the fire and taken concerns direct to Washington, D.C., and Sacremento. This year, Roger is spearheading a major push and roasting elected officials. Jimmy Valentine writes: “Just off the phone with folks from Wake Up America - San Diego and the
folks from FAIR ( Federation for American Immigration Reform ). It now “appears that we have more than 500 citizen lobbyists (from 38 states) signed up to come to DC with Roger April 21 - 26th. This in addition to 35 radio talk show hosts. The numbers will grow as we get closer to our departure date.

“Word that congress will begin working on immigration bills after the Easter recess has prompted more of us to action. Unless we go to DC and make known the wishes of America, the lawmakers will hatch a bill that serves THEM and not America.

“There is still confusion (or reluctance to realize) about what we’re all about. Which is really strange. Some folks think this is a talk radio deal and that radio listeners coming to DC is just a sidebar to the radio event. IT AIN’T. Never has been.

Roger launched Hold Their Feet To the Fire in 1995, not to take his radio
show to DC, but to take his show and HIS LISTENERS to DC to do the work of citizenship. Roger wanted to energize his radio audience to action. He would support and even lead that action but the focus was and remains on Americans confronting their lawmakers…Americans whose special interest is America. Roger’s goal is to empower Radio Nation. The talk show hosts are already empowered. Our goal is to unleash the power of the electorate as it has become energized by talk radio.”

The list of radio hosts can be found at Informed Voter’s list of shows..

Have you bought your HDRadio yet? What are you waiting on? Apparently most of the nation is in a “wait and see” mode as well. First and second generation radio receivers continue to be $150 and up, and then there is the reception. (as previously written about here). In the mode of “If we build it they will come” radio is essentially fragementing its own market. FM stations can split their signal three ways. Radio World reports that Florida Public Radio is trying out a subscription mode on some multicast stations (ending the ‘It’s FREE’ claim). The market swell, while being pimped by many stations in the market — and some not even offering the new standard — is still nine months away before consumers can walk in and buy an inexpensive radio. It goes back to “When was the last time you bought a radio? You generally buy items that include radios — like a car, an alarm clock, or an inexpensive MP3 player. Stay Tuned.

Radio legend and cranky, Don Imus has been suspended for two weeks starting next Monday. His radio show is also picked up by MSNBC. The I-Man touched off a firestorm last week with comments about women’s basketball. On Monday, Imus appeared on the Rev. Al Sharpton’s Radio One syndicated show. Rev. Sharpton called on CBS to fire the 40-year broadcaster over the remarks, which Sharpton labeled “racist and diabolical.”
“What I did was repugnant, repulsive and horrible,” said Imus. “Here are these young women at the pinnacle of their life, and I ruined it.”

Imus told Sharpton he didn’t agree that he should be fired over the incident. Rev. Sharpton was “surprised” that Imus took the time to visit his show, however, Imus’ apology did not seem to move the talk show host. “I’m not going to call you a racist or bigot,” Rev. Sharpton said. “You may be a nice guy, but you should still be fired. He crossed the line, and there must be a penalty to show that we are regulating racist and diabolical statements. I am not putting on Mr. Imus anything that I have not put on my own people. We want to send the message — enough is enough,” Rev. Sharpeton said on his radio show.

A video of the Imus and Rev. Sharpeton on-air meeting can be view at WCBS TV 2.

Hi StarLast week, Jeff and Jer hosted their “Thank You” celebration in San Diego. Little Tommy Sablan writes: “I had a great time at the thank you party and listeners last night seemed more like family. I don’t think the Jeff and Jer showgram has listeners, we have friends and family. Complete strangers that came up to us, felt like family. Our listeners are the absolute best in the country.
Tommy was on a weight goal and surpassed a monthly goal. “I lost 33 pounds. Jeff and Jer decided not to reveal when I surpassed the 20, because there would be no suspense at the party, but in just one full month, I lost 33 pounds and I have another 20-30 to go.”

Thanks Tommy.

Also, the latest hand written diary from Laura Cain was posted and is also presented at the end of today’s column. Laura is expected to return next week.
