Welcome to SDRadio for Monday, July 9, 2007

The world-famous [2] GelderHead Thought Of The Day: It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well. ~ Rene Descartes

AllAccess.com, the radio industry’s go-to guide for all things radio has two former San Diego PDs. AllAccess announced that “Each week, former KHTS & Z90 Program Director Diana Laird and former KMYI PD Michael Hayes will share what they’ve learned as certified Life Coaches to help you make the most of each day.” Find it at [3] AllAccess.com.

All Jacked Up: CBS Radio continues to tinker with their stations. This week, on Thursday at 1:01 p.m., 101.1 WCBS-FM takes a slice out of the Apple of Jack-FM programming and returns to oldies. The New York station returns with familiar hosts. Meanwhile, Jack-FM in LA continues to have more listeners than before.

Today, there are more users of iPhones than HDRadio. Radio analysts estimate that only about 500,000 HDRadio receivers have been sold in the U.S. The wireless industry estimates that 600,000 iPhones have been sold; and push the total sale to 1.2 million by December. Someone get a hold of the HDRadio marketing department.

Clear Channel Radio’s Total Traffic Network today announced that it has begun transmitting traffic data via HDRadio in 48 of the largest U.S. metropolitan areas. This launch marks the first commercially available data service over HD Radio and leverages the robust data delivery capabilities of HD Radio. Clear Channel is working with a variety of receiver manufacturers to make the specially-equipped receivers available by the end of this year.

Locally, the information is available on KGB-FM, and US95.7. The key info here: to get the service, you’ll have to spend $$$ to learn that you are really stuck on the 805, 15, 8, or 5. Stay Digitally Tuned.

US 95.7 is taking you to a concert — and it’s for free! Visit the [4] US 95.7 web page for a ticket to see Cole Deggs with “The Lonesome”. The action takes place on Wednesday, and the only restriction is to be 21-years or older. All the details are at the web site. Plus you can find out how the two trouble makers Tony and Kris are doing.

Ronnie Loaiza, heard recently at KOGO checks in from LA. She moved there when her position at AM 600 ended, and now, she tells me, she’s just as busy. One night a week, she does overnight at KFI on Friday night/Saturday morning. Also, she writes that she “loves LA”, but misses San Diego. Hear Ronnie this coming Friday after 10 p.m. on AM 640. Her web page is at [5] HeyRonnie.com.

This week Dave Palet and Jeff Dotseth take a two-day early evening drive on KOGO on Thursday and Friday. What about some of the resident in-house talk show hosts? Steve Yuhas‘ one-hour Sunday show is about — two hours too short. Not another right wing wacko conservative talk show host, Steve is open and honest about who he is. [6] SteveYuhas.com is the web site that has it all. If KOGO is in a try-out mode for the early evening shift, give Steve a chance.

Larson Blogs His Way: Mark Larson ‘plains it at his [7] LarsonBlog.com about his move from KOGO: “One of the things I’m finding I miss most in my “mulling all options” phase of life now is a daily outlet: A radio talk show. Sure, the Blog helps, but plenty more to say every day.” Mark continues his with almost daily writings at his on-line blog.

Mark writes there about AM600: “I loved the 12-3PM spot on KOGO, but the switch to a 6-8PM show wasn’t working for me… and it felt so far removed from everything else that I enjoyed at the station. But for pundits who keep saying “Larson’s hung up his radio microphone”, as if it’s “forever” —-well, that’s just not true. Just the KOGO mic… stay tuned.”

Thanks Mark. Interesting street buzz about all things Mark and mics, and San Diego …. While he won’t be on Radio Sophie, he could be kickin’ tires and taking the pressure of a major media company. It is, indeed, a Stay Tuned item.

Thank you for making SDRadio part of your radio travels today. See YOU on the radio, and right here later in the broadcast week. Thank you for stopping by!
