The world famous GelderHead Thought Of The Day: We must remember that any oppression, any injustice, any hatred, is a wedge designed to attack our civilization. ~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Long time listeners to the Jeff and Jer Showgram on Star 94.1 know that Tommy Sablan has hit the trail. That’s the walking trail — and he invited listeners to join him every weekend. At first a handful of listeners would show up … and as you can see, the group has grown. Tommy promised a barbeque when the group hit a hundred strong. (Click on the photo for full-industrial strength viewing)
Tommy is making good on that promise to those who were in the first hundred. Listener Jim Neizmik shared a picture of last Saturday’s group and wrote Tommy about the event: “You’ve really started something great! On each walk, I’ve had fun talking with friends I’ve made last time and talked with several new people as well. Everyone I talk with loves the location, the incentive to exercise, and the comfortable environment in which to get to get to know other people who they would have never met otherwise. We all think the whole thing is a very positive experience.”
The showgram is on holiday this week, however Tommy is going to continue his walks, including Torrey Pines on Saturday and Cowles Mountain on Sunday. See the Jeff and Jer section at the Star 94.1 web site.
Internet Streaming Screaming: Finally, someone pulled their head out long enough to realize that on-line streaming is part of the new media convention and the proposed royalty rates are insane. Kurt Hanson’s RAIN reports: “Concern that webcasters and artists would be “irreparably harmed” by proposed royalty rates has spurred the introduction of a new bill that aims to give parties more time to negotiate a settlement.
“The bipartisan legislation, titled H.R. 3015, was introduced by Chairwoman of the Committee on Small Business, Nydia M. Velázquez (pictured below left) and Ranking Member Steve Chabot, and would postpone the implementation of the CRB decision by 60 days, during which time webcasters and the recording industry would be charged with crafting a compromise.”

The issue is not dead, and it’s still a Stay Tuned issue.
KyXy’s Morning Show has an exclusive tomorrow morning. “Kelly Sweet is a friend of the KyXy Morning Show. She’ll be singing the National Anthem Tuesday night, July 17th, before the Padres game at PetCo Park. She wanted to do a few warm ups prior to her PetCo gig so she’s coming into perform “live” on the KyXy Morning Show that very same morning. She is an artist you hear frequently on KyXy Love Songs.”
A visit to the KyXy.com in the morning show area offers a preview of Kelly’s songs. (Pictured: Susan DeVincent, Sonny West, traffic ace, Kevin Dean, and news specialist John Q. Lawrence.)
Today on A.J.’s Playhouse on Channel 933, Steve Wilkos from The Jerry Springer show joins the party! Also, A.J. and crew will have tickets before you can buy them for Maroon 5. Then, Gasonova comes in at 9:20 a.m.
Last Saturday’s 85th Anniversary Special on 1360 KLSD was a success. The one-hour broadcast can be downloaded. Scott Rice writes: “I want to thank everyone who joined me and tuned in Saturday, July 14th for our radio special celebrating the 85th anniversary of San Diego’s oldest licensed radio station….our very own 1360.
“I really enjoyed hosting a history of the station, which featured interviews and airchecks with the biggest names ever in San Diego radio, including radio legend and Boss Jock Chuck Cooper.
“If you missed it, we now have it posted on our podcast page for you to listen to on-line or to download. Click on the link below and look under “Weekends and Features.”

Scott is the chief engineer for San Diego’s Clear Channel center and has undertaken a lot of historical facts. He told me last week that the majority of the one-hour special was edited at the original broadcast site at the 1360 AM transmitter!
