William “Tayari” Howard Day in the city of San Diego. This honor was presented by Council President Pro Tem Tony Young this morning at The San Diego City Council Chambers office commemorating Tayari’s 35 years of broadcasting and community service.

Throughout his career, Tayari has helped raise over one million dollars for over 30 different non-profit organizations in San Diego. Over the last 21 years, he’s worked with several community street fairs including the Encanto Street Fair, the newly formed Imperial Fest in City Heights, The International Village Street Fair and he’s the co-founder of Operation K.I.D.S.

Tayari is one of the “Lites Out Lounge” hosts and can be heard Mondays through Wednesdays at 7:00 PM and Saturday mornings from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM.

Also: Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM has just achieved its fourth consecutive FIRST PLACE finish in the spring Arbitron ratings period for the San Diego market (12+).

KIFM is one of the few Smooth Jazz stations in the country to ever achieve number one status and has now made history by accomplishing this milestone four times in a row.

Fox Television’s American Idol hit the Q yesterday after a weekend of potential winners camping out at the stadium.

On US 95.7’s Tony and Kris Morning show, former American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis stopped by to talk about how American Idol helped launch his career. Constantine is now on The Bold and The Beautiful on CBS playing himself! He is also releasing an album later this month. While in studio, Constantine tried to teach Tony and Kris his signature “rock star” gaze.

Fox officials said over 12,000 hopeful singers lined up at the stadium over the weekend for their try out as the next idol. The tryouts will narrow the group to 400.

Meanwhile sister station Star 94.1 was on the scene with Laura Cain and Little Tommy Sablan working the crowd. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders (center) stopped by and talked with the showgram.

HayHouseRadio.com is seeking a part-time Board Operator with at least 2-3 years of board op experience at a radio station for part time work. The hours are M-Th, 10-4, Fri. 10-2 with some variation. Production and editing experience required. The Board Op will be responsible for running the board for live talk shows for our online radio station. This person must also follow the station’s program log. Additionally the Board Operator will have production and editing responsibilities such as recording and editing various local feeds and loading and editing various content and commercial spots into the computer system.Must know Pro Tools and other digital audio systems a plus. Applicants must be local to San Diego County. Start date asap. Job location: Carlsbad, CA.
