William “Tayari” Howard Day in the city of San Diego. This honor was presented by Council President Pro Tem Tony Young this morning at The San Diego City Council Chambers office commemorating Tayari’s 35 years of broadcasting and community service.

Throughout his career, Tayari has helped raise over one million dollars for over 30 different non-profit organizations in San Diego. Over the last 21 years, he’s worked with several community street fairs including the Encanto Street Fair, the newly formed Imperial Fest in City Heights, The International Village Street Fair and he’s the co-founder of Operation K.I.D.S.

Tayari is one of the “Lites Out Lounge” hosts and can be heard Mondays through Wednesdays at 7:00 PM and Saturday mornings from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM.

Also: Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM has just achieved its fourth consecutive FIRST PLACE finish in the spring Arbitron ratings period for the San Diego market (12+).

KIFM is one of the few Smooth Jazz stations in the country to ever achieve number one status and has now made history by accomplishing this milestone four times in a row.

Program Director and Morning Show host, Mike Vasquez, states, “I’m proud of the fact that our station is locally programmed by San Diegans for San Diegans. While most stations are forced to follow a corporate playlist, we actually pay attention to what our listeners have to say about our programming and it’s paying off for us”
