efreedom_5951 San Diego’s own Shotgun Tom Kelly has been helping the MDA Telethon for years. He is the host of the drive home in LA from 4 to 8 p.m. on KEARTH 101 Last weekend on KCAL-TV in Los Angeles there was acasting call for people to co-Host the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon and work with K-Earth 101’s “Shotgun Tom” Kelly. He writes that “Over 300 people showed up to try out. The person the producers picked was a house wife and mother who had never worked in radio or TV before. Her name is Gina Milligan.” Shotgun Tom was the first to announce the winner on his afternoon drive show on K-Earth 101 last Friday at 3:35 p.m. Thanks Shotgun for checkin’ in from la LA!

The morning talk show battles are heating up with four shows on the AM dial: Chip Franklin at KOGO, Rick Roberts at 760 KFMB, Stacy Taylor at 1360KLSD, and Mark Larson at the top of the dial at San Diego 1700 AM.

mark_larsonMark Larson at San Diego 1700 AM has moved his show again! This is more a geographical move, not in dial position. The morning drive show will be live from the downtown Manchester Grand Hyatt. Mark writes: “We have a great partnership with Papa Doug Manchester and planned on expanding the shows location from the beginning. We’ve done the first month of the show from The Grand Del Mar property, but now we’re ready to do the show daily from the Grand Hyatt.”

1700amMark adds: “In the weeks ahead we’ll launch an expanded San Diego show, from a place where it’s easy for news makers to drop by and join the fun on the air at the only downtown San Diego radio location. We’ll also do special shows from our studio at The Grand Del Mar”.

Mark made the shift today when he opened his 5 to 9 a.m. show.

Noted: In coming days “San Diego 1700 AM” will air a special show to mark the start of Mark’s 32nd year in San Diego radio. In the past month, San Diego 1700 AM has added more news via a local partnership with KUSI-TV, and has teamed with NBC and CNN. The station has added: Dennis Miller, Michael Reagan and Neal Boortz talkshows. “New York Myke” Shelby debuted his live, local weekday talk show on Labor Day on San Diego 1700. Mark, the program director of the station writes that he “promises “more surprises” in coming weeks.”

Mark adds that The Reagan Golf Classic is next Monday. Sunday night is the legacy dinner, and KOGO’s Roger Hedgecock emcees the fun. Monday is the golf tournament with the awards event right after the tourney on-board the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Mark will be the emcee for the event.

rickMeanwhile over at 760 KFMB, Rick Roberts celebrated ten years in the San Diego market. When he first came to the market from the Metroplex in Texas, Rick started at KOGO. He’s still at it today at KFMB. As posted on the 760KFMB website, “It’s a full decade of getting under people’s skin… A decade of pushing for the preservation of the United States and its constitution… A decade of protecting our kids… A decade of covering what others will not…”

Congratulations, Rick on ten years in San Diego.
