Former San Diego Charger coach Marty Schottenheimer called Scott and BR last Friday morning. The coach, currently in North Carolina, told the XX Sports morning hosts that the team will be “just fine”. The interview can be heard at XXSportsRadio.com. Yesterday’s game had the fans asking for the coach back as the team dropped a game to the Chiefs.

Today, as the eyes shift to baseball with the Rockies for the 163 game of the 2007 season. Ted Leitner, Jerry Coleman and Andy Maser will be behind the microphone. The game starts at about 4:30 p.m. and can be heard on 1090 AM and 105.7 FM. (Radio with pictures: TBS has the action.)

Noted: While Padre fans know about Jerry and Ted, the addition of Andy was a grand slam.

You Don’t Say: The popular coast-to-coast public radio show A Way with Words has inked a deal to keep the show on the air in major markets across the country. The arrangement between the new independent production company, WayWord LLC, and KPBS Radio in San Diego, the show’s former producing station, will have brand-new full-length episodes airing as soon as November, the co-hosts and producer announced.

The three key members of the show—co-hosts Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett, and longtime producer Stefanie Levine—formed WayWord LLC shortly after receiving news in August that KPBS no longer had the budget to produce the show. Under the agreement, KPBS, among other stations, will continue to broadcast the call-in language program, first aired in 1998 and now heard worldwide by tens of thousands of podcast listeners and nationwide by radio listeners from California to New York.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Barnette, the San Diego journalist and author who joined the show in 2004. “The response from our audience has been overwhelming. Our listeners are smart and insatiably curious, with a passion for lifelong learning. They’ve been telling us they value intelligent conversation combined with a sense of humor. There was never any question that we’d find a way to keep bringing them a show that gives them just that.”

“I’m delighted to be able to tell the thousands of fans who called and wrote that the show will go on,” said Barrett, the New York-based slang lexicographer and writer who in January succeeded longtime co-host Richard Lederer when he retired. “They let us know that there’s nothing else like us on the radio.”

“We’re thrilled that our new season’s already in production. We see this as a win-win for
everybody,” said Levine, who has spent the past five years refining the show’s format and
production. In August, the A Way with Words team launched a new web site, WayWordRadio.org, featuring an e-newsletter, contests, mini-podcasts, and an online forum where listeners worldwide discuss topics from the radio show.

The radio and recording industry newspaper, Radio & Records, announced the winners for their industry achievement awards. Kelly Cole, from Smooth Jazz 98.1 KiFM, won the award for “Music Director of the Year” in the Smooth Jazz format. This is the fourth consecutive year that she has won this prestigious award.

KiFM Program Director, Mike Vasquez states, “Winning an award of this magnitude once is an incredible honor. Kelly has won it four years in a row, which speaks volumes about her talent and knowledge of the music industry.”

The R&R Convention 2007 is took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, last week.

Today, on KLAC, Dan Patrick starts his morning drive at 6 a.m. The iconic sportscaster left ESPN after 18 years for the newly created content syndication and distribution company, The Content Factory, for the latest incarnation of his popular radio program. Dan will divide his time between Los Angeles and the East Coast.

AM570 KLAC General Manager Don Martin states, “We are very excited to be the flagship home for the ’Dan Patrick Show.‘ Dan is an incredible addition to our powerful live/local line-up already in place on AM570 KLAC. It’s a pleasure to have one of America’s best kick off our day.”

“The Dan Patrick Show,” which features hard-hitting interviews with the biggest names in sports/entertainment, will run weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. His show will also air — digitally delayed — in the afternoon on XX Sports 1090 AM and 105.7 FM.
