The World-Famous GelderHead Thought Of The Day: Let no one ever come to you without leaving better. ~ Mother Teresa

kpbsNeil Ross, San Diego radio legend, has the honors of doing the voice over in tomorrow night’s Nova. You can hear him on KPBS-TV and KPBS-HD. Neil writes: “Think you know everything about the beginnings of the space race? I did too. We don’t………………..My privilege to narrate another quality PBS program!”

The program is Sputnik Declassified and starts at 8 p.m.

On October 4, 1957, the Space Age dawned with the red hue of the Communist flag when the Soviet Union launched the first artificial satellite. Sputnik I stunned the world and spurred a surge in science education and innovation that changed our world forever. But was Sputnik I really a shock to America’s leaders, and how close was the U.S. to getting into space first?

In “Sputnik Declassified,” NOVA probes the prehistory of the Space Age, examining what makes Earth orbit so difficult to achieve; why the superpower rivalry in the wake of World War II made spaceflight attainable for the first time in history; and counters the popular view that President Dwight Eisenhower and the American science and defense establishments were caught completely off guard.

“Sputnik Declassified” draws on previously classified documents to tell the real story behind the opening chapter in the space race.

rogerhedgcock.jpgRoger Hedgecock kicked off the first phase of his nationwide show on Saturday. He hit the mic at 9:07 and formally launched his weekend talk show. The plans have Roger to do the weekend show and then step into a formal weekday show sometime next year. TheRogerHedgecockShow.com is the web home for the broadcast venture. Roger was heard previously as one of the top fill-in hosts for Rush Limbaugh. Jimmy Valentine remains as the executive producer for the weekday local and weekend national show.

Sometime this week, the end of AM radio for Air America and Ed Schultz is really, really, really expected. What is not sure is the date; what is sure is that Stacy Taylor will remain on the regular airwaves in San Diego. As far as the programming from progressive 1360, much talk about HDRadio. Stay Tuned.

Also: Mark will again part of the Young America’s Foundation/Reagan Ranch ” West Coast Leadership Conference” in Santa Barbara this weekend. He’ll emcee the Friday night Presidents Club dinner and speak at the conference, attended by over 500 college students from across America.

danpatrick.pngIt didn’t take too long for XX Sports Radio to move Dan Patrick to nights. The former ESPN Radio host ventured out on his own — and can be heard in the early evening hours at 1090 and 105.7 FM. Those who who want to hear Dan’s take live, can tune in KLAC-AM 570. It’s not that Dan’s show being dropped to night is a bad idea; it is just that his show is very timely in most cases, and hearing about potential events from 12-hours ago when they break in the day — is confusing when the playbook is unfolded during the broadcast day. A good thing about the reshuffle on the 1090 lineup — the daytime programming is better at the expense of time shifting Dan’s show.

kellyshotgunrnr.jpgThank you for making SDRadio part of your internet travels today! See YOU on the radio and here later in the broadcast week.
