The longest format change in recent memory finally happens on Monday. Lee Hacksaw Hamilton opens the mic at 3 p.m. and Xtra Sports comes back to the airwaves.
1360 KLSD’s current programming as a progressive talker will end its run.
As a sports station, Xtra Sports will have Dave Palet and Jeff Dotseth in the morning drive from 6 to 10 a.m. The morning show hosts are in familiar territory as they were sports hosts at 760KFMB. (Dave Palet, Hall of Fame Dave Winfield, and Jeff Dotseth)
Former hosts at XX Sports Radio take to the airwaves. Josh Rosenburg picks up after Dave and Jeff leave the air. The two-hour block is expected to be The Sports Page as writers from the San Diego Union Tribune will join Josh.
Chris Ello (pictured above) has the three hour block starting at noon. Chris was named a host at XX Sports Radio, and before the ink dried on the press release — an announcement was made of his move to Clear Channel. (Pictured: Josh Rosenburg)
At night, Fox Sports Radio will fill in the remainder of the broadcast day.
Posted on the 1360 KLSD web site: “We are continuing to work on options to keep the Progressive talk voice alive in some way in San Diego.” There was some discussion about putting the current line-up on an FM HD channel; possibly Channel 933’s HD3 signal. As of this morning the HD3 portion of the spectrum has not been turned on. Most of the current syndication programming from Air America and Ed Schultz is available through satellite radio or available from other market streaming radio.
New: From Cliff Albert: “We thank you for your support over the last four years so that we could keep San Diego’s progressive talk voice alive during that time on KLSD. You have been a part of clearly the most loyal audience of any radio station in our community.
“While the format has had some challenges being financially successful, the progressive voice will not go away in our community. It will exist in other forms, from the individual voices of our listeners and believers in the progressive cause, to some of our talk show hosts who will continue to be heard in San Diego on traditional radio, around the world on satellite radio, Internet radio and high-tech wireless.
“And remember, your support of KLSD and the efforts of our talk show hosts and all those responsible for our format over the last four years, have not been in vain. Anything but.
You can take heart in the fact that we all have been able during these last four years to bring to life the progressive voice in San Diego that had been far too dormant in the years before. You and our talk hosts have made a difference in San Diego. And we thank you.”
Stay Tuned.
