Stacy Taylor takes his mic to AM 1700

PD Mark Larson expands local coverage

stacy.jpgFormer 1360 KLSD host Stacy Taylor will be on the air starting Jan. 3 at 4 p.m. at San Diego 1700 AM. The move brings Stacy back to the airwaves and puts him in the afternoon drive spot until 7 p.m.

Program Director Mark Larson said, “The move will help the station expand its position as “really reflecting San Diego… mostly conservative, but not entirely.”"

Mark indicated there will be more on this move, as Stacy starts next Thursday.

KOGO Program Director Cliff Albert writes: “Stacy will be starting his new radio talk show next week…but not on AM 600 KOGO unfortunately. Stacy will be sending out an email shortly to his listeners to make the official announcement which I promised him he could make. But I can tell you he will be on a San Diego station, AM band, and it’s not 540, 760 or 1170. I was hoping we could work out a deal, but actually Stacy got a wonderful deal with his new employers and I am happy for him and I know he will do well. I will have more to say after Stacy and his new station make the announcement.

Top Ten Stores for 2007

As 2007 winds down, here’s SDRadio’s take on the top radio stories for the market.

Tower10. Founder Mike Glickenhaus leaves Finest City Broadcasting; and the radio group continues to re-tool the stations.
9. Sign On Radio from the Union-Tribune launches on the internet in October 2007. Dave Mason, Clark Anthony, Ken Copper, and others take to the air.
8. Mark Larson moves to afternoon drive at KOGO; leaves AM 600, and moves to program director at AM 1700.
7. Roger Hedgecock takes his show national with KOGO as the flagship station.
6. Clear Channel drops six folks at the San Diego operation, most notable in the missing: Cindy Pace from middays at 101.5 KGB.
5. HDRadio signals in San Diego grow, but the transmission is limited in range. No real hook outside of KyXy’s HD2, KGB’s HD2, or KPBS‘ two multicast options.
4. Format flops: 103.7 Free FM moved the cheese on the talk format in the market but gathered few listeners.
3. KOGO drops morning news and goes with Chip Franklin.
2. In October, San Diego burns, and radio was on the front line giving information to the entire county. Noted KOGO, KPRI, and KPBS‘ coverage of the wildfire.
1. KLSD’s dropping of Air America, along with Ed Schultz and Stacy Taylor was the worst kept secret and took three months to long. In return Lee Hacksaw Hamilton along with Dave and Jeff returned to the airwaves.

See you on the radio in 2008!
