Welcome to SDRadio for Monday, January 14, 2008

Back full strength!

Chris Cantore:

cantore1.jpgFormer 91Xer, Chris Cantore had a very successful run as the morning show at the alternative rocker. Finest City Broadcasting let the veteran go after Christmas.

His MySpace page is taking off with comments such as this from Angela: “Thank you for sharing your mornings with us… without you at 91x it’s like i’m listening to a bunch of 12 yr olds fighting over the mic…. you were the best thing they had going… you let your listeners into your life… you talked about your family and you made your listeners feel like family too. YOU LET US IN… that’s something that NOBODY else on San Diego radio has GENUINELY done… you’re so down to earth and stand up for what’s right –regardless of the sacrifice– That is why you are loved so much Chris. Best of wishes to you and yours, and I hope to hear you on the air again soon… You are who you are, and that’s a blessing that nobody can take away.”

Also from Tania: “I’m sorry for 91X they’ve lost the best they had, and I’m sorry for us, the morning show listeners! (I’m a 3rd grade teacher) I just want to say thanx! My mornings will never be the same. I listened to you almost every day for years (7 or 8, since I was in high school!) I used to love 91X because you were there (I only listen to the radio in the mornings when I’m getting ready and on my way to work) I love the music I love because I heard it in your show. I miss you and will miss you until I hear you on the air again! And I know you deserve the time off and I hope you enjoy it, but I also hope to hear you back on the radio really soon.”

Chris adds: “I’m sorry I didn’t have the opportunity to say “goodbye” on 91X. Never my intent. I can’t begin to tell you how much I value our relationship. An anomaly in present-day radio. Thank you so much for your kind words. I am speechless. My humble thanks… I’m not disappearing. I will resurface. I will keep in touch. Please check back regularly. In the meantime, perhaps I’ll see you in the water…” He can be reached at [2] ChrisCantore@gmail.com.

Stay Tuned!

stacytaylor.jpgSan Diego 1700’s program director Mark Larson says the reaction to the addition of Stacy Taylor to their line-up has been very strong. What Mark finds most fascinating is the email he’s receiving from die-hard liberals who now praise the “Larson open mindedness”. He notes, “And they’ll grow to love me, too. The fact is, 1700 has found a niche that really mirrors San Diego…. mostly conservative but not 100-percent”. Mark leads off, live and local, from the right 5 to 9 a.m. and Taylor winds ‘em up outta left field 4 to 7 p.m. Noted that New York Myke and Dennis Miller are a bridge to Stacy’s show int he afteroon.

MORE LARSON: As the prime guest-host for Michael Reagan’s national network talkshow, he filled in again on Monday, broadcast on over 200 stations and Sirius and XM satellite.

In terms of exposure, every week Mark’s voice is also heard on over 2,500 outlets around the world each week, including Turning Point radio and television with the Dr. David Jeremiah ministry and is heard in health supplement ads.

zieglerjohnleah30.jpgIn February, excerpts from Mark’s San Diego 1700 show will be heard on a new network of stations at American bases in Iraq. More info on this to come…

Former nigh time host John Ziegler chimes in about his sudden departure from KFI AM 640. John claims that John Kobylt is the main reason that he is no longer at KFI. Read about it at [3] The Real KFI. (Ziegler is pictured with Leah Brandon)

John will returns to the airwaves this morning. He’ll do commentaries that will be heard at 7:20 am and 4:20 pm on AM 540.

Magic 92.5’s morning show of Jagger and Kristi will have a special guest! It is “Henry” a huggable two month old, neutered, male, Alaskan Malamute/Labrador Retriever Mix. Cuteness galore! Prestige abounds! The softest ears ever to be found! A little bundle of fluff today, “Henry” will grow into a BIG 70 pound plus cream puff! “Henry’s” dreamy, creamy coat along with his kissable self is guaranteed to make you smile all year through!

barkbark.jpg“Henry’s” adoption fee of just $225 includes up-to-date vaccines, an identification microchip and has been examined for health and temperament. (No extra charge for all the extra love and kisses!)

Helen Woodward Animal Center kennels are open everyday from 11am to 6pm

Local Notes: The fall book was good to KOGO and 760 KFMB. Call it the fire bounce as the two AM stations were the primary station that San Diego choose to receive their information. It was also very good for Lincoln Financial’s KSON and KiFM. They were at the top of the 12-plus ratings. Both stations captured more than ten-percent of the audience. Clear Channel had nearly a quarter of the audience spread across seven stations. (it is too early to see where XTRA Sports 1360 is in the ratings picture.) Noted: overnight belongs to George Noory on KOGO-AM. Combined with KFI the syndicated show has 30-percent of the audience in certain age groups …..

Expect the radio books to settle down next period — unless a calamity happens …..

Thank you for making [4] SDRadio a part of your internet travels. More news as it happens, and full columns later in the broadcast week. Thanks to the San Diego Chargers for an exciting game …. see you on the radio and here later in the broadcast week!
