KSWB builds newscasts

FOX 5 News adds team to morning and evening newscasts

Fox 5San Diego, CA July 15, 2008– KSWB-TV is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Kendis Gibson, Mr. Raoul Martinez and Mr. Walter Makula to the Fox 5 News team. Set to debut on August 1, 2008, “Fox 5 Morning News” will be a 4-hour local newscast covering all of San Diego and “Fox 5 News at Ten” is a full hour newscast airing every night of the week. Both shows will be produced entirely in high definition.

Kendis Gibson joins Kathleen Bade as co-anchor of the “Fox 5 News at Ten” weeknights. Kendis’ career in news and journalism spans local news, major markets and cable network reporting, anchoring and hosting. Most recently Kendis served as a correspondent for E! Entertainment Television. Other cable duties included stints with Current TV, HGTV and CNN where Kendis was a news and entertainment anchor for Headline News. Mr. Gibson served in New York as a reporter for both NBC Newschannel and WNBC-TV. Kendis also reported at WTXF-TV Fox in Philadelphia and at WHEC-TV in Rochester, New York. Kendis is a graduate of State University of New York at Oswego where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

Raoul Martinez joins Arthel Neville as co-anchor of “Fox 5 Morning News”. Raoul comes to San Diego from Orlando, Florida where he was most recently anchor and reporter for NBC affiliate WESH-TV. In Orlando Raoul’s work was seen nationally on The Today Show, MSNBC and CNN, as well as NBC stations around the country. Mr. Martinez was previously anchor and reporter for KESQ-TV ABC and KDFX-TV Fox in Palm Springs. Raoul received his Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from University of Southern California and his Bachelor of Arts in English from University of Southern California.

Walter Makula joins Susan Lennon as co-anchor of Fox 5 News at Ten weekend edition. Walter is a versatile anchor and reporter with television, radio and Internet experience. Most recently Walter worked as anchor and reporter for KHNL-TV NBC in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was the 5pm anchor and a reporter for 10 pm broadcast. Mr. Makula previously worked at KGMB-TV CBS, also in Honolulu, as a general assignment reporter. For Artist Direct Web TV in Los Angeles, California, Walter conducted celebrity interviews with entertainers such as Justin Timberlake and Mandy Moore for Internet programming. Walter began his career as a radio news anchor for KHNR radio, a CNN radio affiliate. Walter earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Hawaii Pacific University.

KSWB-TV will become the San Diego home to the highly rated Fox Television Network on August 1, 2008. The station will feature the NFL, NASCAR, Major League Baseball, American Idol, House, 24, Bones, The Simpsons, America’s Most Wanted and other Fox Network programming. Additionally, the station will continue to be the popular home for weeknight comedies Family Guy, Two and a Half Men, Sex and the City and much more.
