GROUND ZERO: Last Friday’s show, Mark Larson pointing out that he has a unique perspective regarding the boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt by some gay groups. The San Diego AM 1700 host does his show from “Ground Zero” for the debate: At the Hyatt every morning (Manchester has “naming rights” for San Diego 1700AM). As he said on his shows last week, “The premise of the boycott is absurd. I’m here every day and there’s never a case of ‘before we take your money are you gay or straight? ‘ There’s absolutely no bias or prejudice day-to-day. The idea that Doug Manchester can get criticized for free speech in his personal life is outrageous. One lobbying group leader said it was OK for Papa Doug to give ’some’ money but $125,000 was ‘too much’. Ridiculous. George Soros and friends give a whole lot more to causes on the other side, and as long as it’s done by the rules, that’s fine. Both sides have the legal right to put their money where their convictions are, getting issues on the ballot
and letting Californians decide. There’s also a not-so-subtle attempt to get Manchester to unionize, too. That’s the real issue behind the current pressure. That and the outrage that justices on the California Supreme Court can thwart the will of the people, assuming they’re also legislators.”
The morning host adds: ” I have never, ever been asked by Manchester to take sides on the story. This is about common sense. And free speech.”

LARSON IN IRAQ: As Barack Obama makes history visiting Afghanistan for the first time, and Iraq for a second stop, Mark will produce his 100th radio show for Iraq this week. The special half hour version of his 1700AM morning show, with customized commentary for the troops, airs twice daily weekdays on “A Voice in the Wilderness“, the Iraq radio network operated by Marine Corps Chaplains. It’s heard on all major bases in-country. “It’s a huge honor to be asked to provide this”, notes Mark. “We do it as a labor of love for those laying it all on the line.” Mark’s also been invited back to Afghanistan later this year, as well as visiting the USS Ronald Reagan in the Persian Gulf (his second trip).
